Micranthemum callitrichoides 'Cuba'
Formerly known as Hemianthus callitrichoides.
Micranthemum callitrichoides 'Cuba ' is one of the smallest aquarium plants in the world, with its millimeter-small round leaves creeping over the substrate. When planted in small bundles a few centimetres apart, it spreads quickly and forms a continuous carpet at the bottom of the aquarium.
This attractive foreground plant only grows a few centimetres high and is ideal for smaller, well-lit aquaria. Small bubbles or beads often form at the tips of the plants, giving this ground cover a lively appearance.
If the optimum conditions for HCC cannot be met, Micranthemum 'Monte Carlo' is a good alternative, as it has lower growth requirements.
The carpet must be cut at short intervals to prevent the plants from shading the lower parts and thus damaging other plants. By planting in small portions a few centimetres apart, Micranthemum callitrichoides 'Cuba' spreads quickly and forms a beautiful, continuous carpet on the aquarium substrate.
This plant was discovered in Cuba, west of Havana, and is an excellent choice for aquarium enthusiasts who want a fine and lively carpet in their aquarium.
